Hi everyone!

I work in a shop with 2 Amada lasers (FO 3015NT & LCG 3015AJ) as well as an Amada turret punch (AE2510NT), and we have used Dr.ABE as our nesting software for nearly 20 years. Our leadership has been discussing their displeasure with the speed and other shortcomings of Dr.ABE and have asked me to do some research into different software products.

As many of you may know, Dr.ABE has been discontinued and replaced by VPSS 3i Blank, which I can find little to no actual information about (Amada wants you to talk to sales). I have also looked at a couple of other programs I have come across online (Nestfab & BobCad-Cam) both of which were unable to handle even the few test pieces I tried out. One of my coworkers has suggested Radan which we have used previously with our StripIt turret, but I found it to be clunky and lacking many capabilities that Dr.ABE has (it has been more than a decade since I used Radan, so I know things can/may have changed). We have also used AP100, but it didn't play well with our parts.

We make decorative panels and HVAC vents and the patterns can be quite intricate, with some of our programs having over 100000 lines of code to cut a 10X4 sheet; so we will require a robust nesting software capable of handling a heavy load, it would also be advantageous to find a single program that can run both the laser and the punch so we're not having to switch back & forth.

Can anyone give me any recommendations for software to try or avoid? Does anyone have any experience with VPSS 3i?

Thanks in advance,

We run vpss 3i. Basically the software has given more power to the computer to make decisions. Its sad to say I preferred DR. Abe over it. We also have a rotary index though so I have 3 different software's to use to make a single round part. Unfortunately they kind of have the market cornered on their machines. I don't know of any software available that would work on both. Sorry!
