Sometimes, I feel kind of dumb when I read an article like that. Just some good rules of thumb for deciding what type of weld to use. Stuff that I rarely think about, but really should be more "intentional" about in design!

What's the trick with Figure 4a vs 4b? He says 22% difference in weight of weld metal but the difference in area is 80%. Does it have to do with building out at the edges, or melting away the base metal?

And Fig 1b has slightly less capacity than 1a?
