Is there a way to make autocad create a new layer and automatically bring in a new lineweight besides default. My company has set several standards on lineweights and i have created several templates etc to help. However some of our employees never remember to create an object layer and set the lineweight accordingly. I'm simply trying to make it fool proof for those who forget.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. This response is in regards to what I think you are asking. The templates that you are constructing and saving should contain the necessary setup as far as lines and layers are concerned. The "Layers Property Manager" is what you would use to create layers and assign lines as required.

I know to use layermanager to create layers. What i want to do is set up autocad so that any layer created in the manager automatically has a set lineweight of .50mm not default. Too many people create the layer but never change the lineweight.

dodge00neon,

I think there's no way to "lock" the possibility to change the linewight.
I always draw with the lineweight "by layer"

Maybe You can create a macro for all. in this macro You can set the linewight of 0.5...

Let me rephrase what i typed earlier....

when you want to make a layer. You first go to the layer manager and craete a layer. what do you do. First to type the name of the layer you want. Then change the color to what you want or need finally you set the "lineweight" to what you want it to be. The problem is NO one here remebers to set the lineweight it stays as default. Now ever when your in a drawing and make sure your lines are set for "by layer" it still referancees the line weight of default. Which still does me no good.... I want it to be set up so in Autocad when a layer is created instead of making a new layer automatically white in color and lineweight default it makes the lineweight .50mm.... There has to be away to do this.

From AutoCAD help:

LWDEFAULT
Type: Enum
Saved in: Registry
Initial value: 25
Sets the value for the default lineweight. The default lineweight can be set to any valid lineweight value in hundredths of millimeters, including: 0, 5, 9, 13, 15, 18, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 50, 53, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 106, 120, 140, 158, 200, and 211.

All values must be entered in hundredths of millimeters. (Multiply a value by 2540 to convert values from inches to hundredths of millimeters.)

lwdefault only set the lineweight in your speciffic seat of acad. It doesn't carry over when someone else opens the drawing.

Ex. I set my default to .50mm and created a drawing then opened it on another computer and the lineweigt was no longer .50 but rather what the default was set up there. This would work in house but not when i have to e-mail them to the customer.

i'm starting to think this isn't something thats possible.
