We have a little contest in our office to see who can design the best layout for a new office for our company...

So...to the point

What is it that you all hate and like most about your offices...that way I can try to when this little contest.

Thanks a mill

The best layout i have seen is to have the Project Managers and Project Engineers in offices around the perimeter. Then in the center are cubicals with the EITs and drafters. A separate room housed all the printers. Our office right now has multiple offices some with a single person and some with up to four. The one thing to remember is that the more open the area more talkative the employees can be.

I find that I never have enough flat space for laying out plans and reference material.

I think it is unconscionable to force EIT's and drafters to commute to a place where they are stuck into an interior cubicle.

I prefer to give my designers (and support staff for that matter) the ability to work whenever and wherever they choose. 99% of what they do requires little face to face communication. Argue the 1% if you want.

Regarding the "lack of flat space for laying out plans"....get a projector and a wall.
