I am a new user to Pro/E but I am very experienced with both AutoCAD and SolidWorks. How easy or hard will I find the transition to be and are there any resources I should investigate? Thanks

Thanks, that's a good start...

What is everyone's opinion on transitioning from AutoCAD & SolidWorks over to Pro/E???

cwolfe8229,

We made the switch about 9 months ago. I too had years of acad (14) and sw (6) experience. We standardized on Pro for the entire corporation, 120+ users worldwide. Training is the key. Using the software after training is 2nd most important. We had our training towards the tail end of a project and ended up completing it in our legacy software (SW). We're just starting to pick up on a new project and we're struggling. It's the old use it or lose it syndrome. After a couple of weeks of consistently using Pro it's all coming back. I'm feeling much more comfortable with it now. I do catch myself saying "I know this isn't the best way to do this" (modelling practices)but I do it anyway just to get the job done. I do remember having similar thoughts when first starting out with SW though. As with anything, the more time you spend on it, the better you get and the smarter your models get. It is easier resolving a failed feature in SW than in Pro.

Greetings.

Another source of information id You can sign up for their email exploder. Ask specific questions, recieve live emails or a once a day dump of the emails or a once a day page on email subjects. I have had 5+ yrs in Pro and still learn from this site.

Second is how you keep and open mind. I have trained alot of people from other software to use Pro-E and the biggest strugle is tha bad habbits, and instructing sound model management and design intent and model integrity.

I found the books from Schroff Development Corp (SDC) very useful - much better in fact than the manuals we received when attending our official PTC training. You can go to to find out more. I believe Amazon stock most of their Pro/E titles.
