Hello there, everyone!

My name is Gustavo and I work at a steel mill plant here in Brazil. We're looking for some innovation related to overhead crane control. Is there any kind of control that demands some kind of authentication to work, like a card or a password? We'll use it to control who's using the crane and when it's being used.

Is there anything similar to that?

Best Regards.

Gustavo

A simple key switch (or two in series if you want someone to need authorisation)?

No need to try too hard really. As RobWard suggested, use a key.
You can have the key on the crane remote, with a lanyard to the operator so they don't forget it (and with an ID number on the key so you know who left it in). You can key the crane power supply if you want to limit it to times of day / when a supervisor is in.

I'm sure all of the crane manufacturers would be happy to sell you a smart card system for your controller :)
