Posted a thread and now it's not there. And "My Stuff" says I have no threads? Searched the forum list and there are no help forums to post this question in??

If the topic/thread was deemed DIY or student-related, it was likely flagged and deleted.

if it was DIY there's the "Engineers with hobbies" forum.

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

Thanks rb1957. It was a DIY question on geared motors. How do I know for sure what happened? Do they send an email?

If it disappeared I think it was red flagged and deleted. Sometimes things are posted that shouldn't be. I would normally suggest to the poster that he red flag his own post and explain to the mgmt. But if it's a repeat offender then I'll message the mgmt directly to delete.

Dan D,

I think that when they delete your thread, you get a nastygram. One of my replies disappeared mysteriously. I assumed it had been red[‑]flagged due to inappropriate language. A week or so later, I found I had somehow replied to a different message thread in another forum. In the end, I red[‑]flagged it.

At the top of the screen, pull down My[ ]Stuff, and look at My[ ]Threads and My[ ]Replies. You might find something.

We are having problems with spammers, and we are getting pissed off.

It just vanishes!

Sometimes you get an email but not unless you're a repeat offender.

I think it was about putting a motorized TV lift into an RV; not really spam, but not an engineering profession question either. Not something I'd flag. I thought the information wasn't enough to really help with. Definitely a candidate for the "Engineers with Hobbies" forum. There is a lot of sneak-vertising so perhaps someone pulled the trigger too easily.

@drawoh, ... wow, red flagging your own inappropriate language !?

Thanks for the info.

That was the post. I spent a very long time reviewing all the existing posts I searched with "Torque" to find anything that would answer my question before I created the thread. To be perfectly honest, from what I've seen there are many threads with DIY, Tinker, and Hobbyist questions. That's where I based my logic in it's validity. I'll take your word for advertising, but, that post having even an inkling of advertising or spam in it is akin to applying a 0.000000000001 machine tolerance.

And I'm an engineer. That made it an engineering profession question. Pure logic. lol

I've been an engineer for 35 years. Always, always, always, glad to assist with anyone's question if my experience can help. It doesn't matter who you are, what position you hold, or why you want knowledge. I guess that's not common anymore these days?

The only mention I will give on deleting a post is, "The system needs a good review when the innocent are arbitrarily looked at as villains and instantly eradicated." The post could have been moved or I could have been instructed to move it. All the time I spent compiling that post is now gone.

I'll leave it at that and thank you all for the responses in here. I think I'll move on to more friendly sites.

AFAIK this software doesn't let posts be moved. At least I've never seen it. Sorry to see you leave.

Dan D,

Don't get put off so easily.

There is a bit of sensitivity with what are seen as DIY posts in the main forums so you may have got caught up in that. If you are interested in assisting other then this site is a good as any other and in many cases a lot better.

I agree that sometimes posts get deleted that maybe shouldn't and the process is a little opaque, but keeping adverts and non "work" engineering out of the forums is why a lot of people like it.

So try the engineers with hobbies forum and see what happens.

Yea, but the ones who do bite aren't on a leash. :)

Thanks for the message. I contacted an old engineering friend who was always the smartest one in the room and he looked it over for me.

Thanks again.
