Hello,

I am setting up a system for leak testing industrial cast iron and stainless body vane and gear pumps prior to shipment. Water as the test media is out due to corrosion concerns. I have been scouring the internet trying to find an alternate test fluid, or anti-corrosion additive, for this application to no avail. The things I am considering are mineral oil, antifreeze, and Durachem 615 inhibitor.

Anyone already gone through this struggle with advice?

Thanks,
Steve

Can you use a gas?
B.E.

You are judged not by what you know, but by what you can do.

I have considered a pressure decay or bubble check, but it would be nice to verify operation too.

What fluid will the pump normally be working with and why can't you use that?

There are plenty of replacement, substitute or calibration fluids, but they can often have limitations because of the lack of lubricity and high temperature use etc...

So, it's best to start with the fluid that the pump will normally be used with, the look to mitigate any and all reasons why that fluid cannot be used.

We supply these pumps to the Tanker Truck industry for offloading product. Vane pumps are specified for low viscosity fluids and gear pumps for high viscosity. The only change we make is seal material to verify compatibility, but they can be pumping any number of chemicals, up to road tar, or as low as Butyl Alcohol. The list of possible payloads our sales team uses is over 20 pages.

Thanks for taking the time to help.
