NFPA 30 paragraph 16.5.2.2

in NFPA 30, paragraph 16.5.2.2, sub-paragraph 1) says "Automatic Sprinkler protection"
and
in NFPA 30, paragraph 16.5.2.4, sub-paragraph 1) says "Foam Water Sprinkler protection"

I think that all the NFPA 30 is talking about Foam extinguishing systems. Why is using the
"Automatic Sprinkler Protection"?

Nfpa gives 2 options for fire fire protection, one with water only and one with foam/water. The foam is introduced at the sprinkler riser in either a 3 or6%. Mixed with the water and discharged via the sprinkler. This is considered a low expansion foam sprinkler system.

Do not forget to review FIGURE 16.8.1 Spill Containment and Liquid Spread Control for Protected Storage. This will let you know if you need foam based on the spill and or liquid spread control. This table is often missed and can result in a lot of $$$ if not taken into the design of the room/warehouse. For existing building retrofit with foam is the way to go.
