Anyone know why there is no longer a 42 ksi in Table 4-14 (Available Critical Stress for Compression Members) of the new 15th edition manual?
Table 2-4 shows A500 Grade B yield stress of 42 ksi for Round HSS and 46 ksi for Rectangular HSS.
13th edition (Table 4-22) has both 42 ksi and 46 ksi in it. Don't know if both are in the 14th edition.

I suspect 42 ksi is not in the table simply because it is not the "preferred" material for round HSS. Grade C 46 ksi appears to be the preferred material.

One of the webinars for the 15th edition changes provided by AISC said they changed the "preferred" material strength to Grade C steel due to what was commonly being provided by mills, and so higher strength is acceptable to be used.

Go Bucks!

Great. Thanks for the info.
