Hi, I'm having a problem with Inventor. I don't think I did anything to cause this, but I have no idea to fix it. When I am making a drawing in Inventor 10, dimensions show up just fine, as do things like thread notations and so on, but I cannot insert text either on its own or on a leader. I also can't add extra text after dimensions.

If I am trying to do leader text, the arrow will appear but not the text.

Thanks in advance..

I am going to be VERY blunt. READ the FAQ's. READ other posts. Do a SEARCH in the forum.

I am sorry if you have no idea why you are getting this response but this question has been answered several HUNDRED times on multiple forums. Run a search in the forum for missing text, and next time read the other posts before you ask what has now become a STUPID question.

Well, after looking through a faq I found elsewhere, it seems that the issue is caused by the latest windows update.

Thanks for the 'help', I will be sure to remember this should I ever see you asking a question somewhere.

Forgive aardvarkdw, but the problem you asked about has been asked over and over so many times it's kind of ridiculous. Just remember to look up FAQ's and previous posts to see if you can find the answer without having to ask the question next time. Don't let him scare you into not wanting to ask something though.

Aardvarkdw, that was pretty harsh. How would you like someone out of the blue treating you like a dumb a$$ just because you asked a question you didn't know the answer to?

Perhaps I was a little harsh... however that was the second time I answered that question in as many days after answering that same question many times on this and other message boards (6 times on this one by my count). I have no problem answering questions (even stupid ones) as long as the person asking has taken the time to look for the answer themselves.

This problem has been around for long enough and been rehashed so many times that when it comes up it practically screams "I don't have time to look for an answer so I am going to waste your time instead.)

I apologize for my abrupt response.

David

Aardvarkdw,

My suggestion is to stop answering questions if they annoy you. You must be a joy to work with.

I am new to this site and I am having the same proble with the missing text!!! What ever came of this??? I can't find it in the FAQ under missing text, do i not know how to search it???

I have Inventor 8 and this only goes down to 9, do you think it will still work?

So it is a no go on the download. Since I have Inventor 8 it won't work. Any more solutions for me?

Delete MS hotfix KB918118 from add and remove programs, be sure that show updates is checked, and disable automatic updates so that it wont be auto-installed.

I checked for MS Hotfix KB918118 and it isn't listed in add and remove programs. This is interesting since I can't add text to dim's nor can I insert an Autocad dwg. Any thoughts as to what else I should do?

Do you see any "Windows xxxx Hotfix xxxx"? I have Windows 2000 and there must 50 or so of them.

Yes I do see Hot Fixes when I go to add and remove. I am currently running XP pro Sp2. When I looked for the KB918118 I didn't see it. Will look again, but can something else be causing the problem?

No, its the Hotfix. Have you checked the Autodesk website and made 100% sure that you're up-to-date? Also, what version of Inventor did you say you're using?

I checked the add/remove programs in control panel and can't find KB9118118. I went to Autodesk and downloaded some stuff for Inventor and Mechanical Desktop version that I use for mu client. Inventor 8 for one client and I will have to load 5.3 for another. From the thread I am gathering that this HOTFix bothers multiple levels of Inventor. The spuninst.exe that was mentioned is for MS 2000 although XP Pro SP2 (which I use) is supposed to have it doesn't seem to find it from the command line. Beside add/remove portion of control panel is there somewhere else that the HOTFIXs are listed?

Well you maybe stuck as far as Inventor goes. I stand to be corrected, but I don't believe you'll find any support from Autodesk. Reason being, they don't support more than the current version and the 2 previous releases. For example, INV2008 is current and INV10 & 11 were the 2 previous releases. Those 3 versions are the only ones that Autodesk will support.

I know you're on the right track. Just have to figure out how to get rid of that update.

By the way, when you checked "Add/Remove Programs" did you select the box for "Show Updates"? If not, then try that again and see if you don't find that KB918118.

Latest info. I found KB918118 and removed all of it from computer. In XP Pro the add/remove program function didn't list this Hotfix, but I did find it in the following directory C:\winnt\$hf_mig$\KB918118. I then deleted that directory and ran a registry program that found and deleted two lines looking for KB918118. After doing all this I still have disappearing text in my Inventor8. Is there anything else that can be causing this problem.
