Normalized materials for special services

Dear all,
Do any of the following services require normalized plates, forging and fitting ?
1. Caustic service
2. Acid service (H2SO4)
3. Lethal service
4. Hydrofluoric (HF) Acid service
5. Any other services require normalization if you know of ? (Wet sour service is yes)

I try to put all together as a general guideline

All the services you mention can be read in the respective codes and standards.

What material plates, forging and fittings do you want to normalize?

The codes and standards don't select material for the service but they do provide rules for construction in terms of prohibition, quality control and tests depending on the service/fluid.

All, it is for carbon steels used in these special services.
Codes will not talk about whether to normalize materials for special services. It is all based on experience and testing and many engineering firms or oil companies have their own specific requirements whether normalized CS shall be used. I am looking for people who have purchased vessels for these service or have seen specifications and kindly advise if normalizations is required. Thanks.
 
Jtseng123, I'd think your best bet is to trawl as many E&C specs plus as many industry stds as you can get your hands on. I doubt this codified in any one spot.

It's a tough question and there is no any cookie cut answer to your question. There are so many variables involved in this question such as the material chemical composition, physical properties, percentage concentration/strength of the fluid, temperature, pressure, location (ambient conditions) etc.
You should consult a material engineer to define the material for your service.
As a thumb rule, a heat treatment process is required where the fluid/environment will cause a stress corrosion cracking. In terms of design, a normalized steel will lower the MDMT compared to a non-normalized steel for the same wall thickness.

Any service where the end user deems that normalised material would offer the required performance not provided by other heat treatments.
