can you anyone explain the below paragraph i cannot understand this paragraph ..my question is what is the meaning of this content(PQR for a process record-
ing a test coupon that was at least 1/2 in. (13 mm) thick)

(b) For GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, PAW, and SAW, or com-
binations of these processes, a PQR for a process record-
ing a test coupon that was at least 1/2 in. (13 mm) thick
may be combined with one or more other PQRs recording
another welding process and any greater base metal
thickness. In this case, the process recorded on the first
PQR may be used to deposit the root layers using the pro-
cess(es) recorded on that PQR up to 2t (for short‐
circuiting type of GMAW, see QW-404.32) in thickness
on base metal of the maximum thickness qualified by
the other PQR(s) used to support the WPS. The require-
ments of Note (1) of Tables QW-451.1 and QW-451.2 shall
apply.

If the test coupon used for qualifying the WPS is at least 1/2-inch thick, it can be combined with other PQRs to support additional WPSs.

PQR A: 1/2-inch using GTAW and ER70S-2
PQR B: 1-inch using FCAW and E71T-4

WPS XYZ using GTAW root and FCAW for intermediate and cover layer supported by the combination of PQR A and PQR B

A bit more clarity of "Gtaw" reply.

if you want to combine two PQRs and wanted the benefit of higher thickness range of cover pass PQR, then the PQR used for root welding shall be at least qualified on 1/2 inch thick plate/pipe. if it is less than 1/2 inch, still it can be combined with any other PQR, but the benefit of obtaining the higher thickness range from the cover pass PQR will not be availed.

Case 1
PQR A : GTAW 15 mm thick
PQR B : SMAW 25 mm thick

WPS A combining PQR A and PQR B utilizing GTAW process for root with a base metal thickness range up to 50 mm.

Case 2
PQR A : GTAW 10 mm thick
PQR B: SMAW 25 mm thcik

WPS A combining PQR A and PQR B with maximum base metal thickness range up to 20 mm only.

Case 1 & 2 are valid if there is no PWHT involved.

Please explain this statement. PWHT Time at temp is supplementary.

I believe Both cases are valid irrespective of PWHT application.
You are most welcome to defend with clauses of ASME Sec IX.
