hello evreyone ;)[dazed]
i'm a new designer engineer, plz help me
1. how can i choose between diffrent sketch in fig UG-40 (asme viii div 1) to design a nozzle and how i choose if the nozzel set-in ou set-on and self rienforncing or not?
2. how can i calculate (tx) and (te) in sketch (e) Fig UG-40?

Note 1 : i'm using hand calculation , i haven't a softwar.
Note 1 : i'm a fresh designer engineer, so maybe these questions are basic questions so if someone can help me to design
a pressure vessel from biginig until stress analysis i will be thankful, i did thickness calculation for heads and shell and i have some difficulties for nozzle neck and rienforcement and wind, seismic stress calculations.

thank you,

Houari Yahia

Pressure vessel design is not something you can just start to work on and learn from by asking these questions. Although members here will always be willing to help, perhaps this is a job better left to an experienced engineer. As you mentioned you're a 'new design engineerir', look for a mentor who can teach you over the years, such that after some time you can do this on your own.

HOUARI YAHIAOUI, the nozzle detail chosen is a matter of designer's preference, the fabricator's preference, client specifications, if any, and other Code rules, to name the most common. How to calculate tx, te is given in Note 3 of the figure.

You can always learn a certain amount on you own, and it is good practice, but if you hope to achieve some level of competence any time soon, than pay attention to XL83NL's reply. Get some mentoring, get some training, get some software. If nothing else, start building you own spreadsheets or programs. Doing calculations by hand is illustrative and a worthwhile experience, but no working designer has the time for it.

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

If the designs work out okay with multiple details, then check with more experienced designers or with the fabricating shop to see which is preferred.

You can do ASME code by hand, but it is very time consuming. Major items (shell, head thickness) are quick and easy. Minor items (strength of reinforcing, etc.) are simple in theory but get complicated by having a mass of details.

There are vessel design short courses that will help quite a bit, still not a substitute for working with somebody else.

thank you for everyone,

XL83NL thank you for your reply, and i look for a basic pressure vessel design if possible to understand asme code... and i will search for training in the futur.

SnTMan (Mechanical) thank you for your reply but i didn't find note 3 in fig UG40? plz tell me the number of page?!

JStephen : thank you very much, i do calculation to prepar an excel spreadtsheet to more calculation pressure vessel.

HOUARI YAHIAOUI, page 47 in the 2015 Edition. One other recommendation, get a good pressure vessel handbook such as this
