Hi all,

i'm doing automation with Expressions (no Journals, no Knowlege Fusion).
The 3D design of the part/assembly works well with Expressions.
Now I want to do the automation of the drawing based on the parameters of the assembly.
Things like automating notes, tables, dimensions, correct drawingscale is working well with Expressions.
But as the geometry of the assembly changes, some dimensions and views have to change their position on the drawing.
For example:
I want to show a detail of the assembly with an circular detail view.
If the shown detail moves in the assembly, the boundary of the view has to move as well.
I specify the boundary by selecting two points. The location of the points can be specified by Expressions.
But as soon as the detail view is created the position of boundary is fixed and does not move if I change the related Expression.
It seams like the connection to the Expression is lost as soon as I create the view.
Similar problem goes for the positions of the views itselfe.
Is there a solution that i can control the position of a view and view boundarys with Expressions?

Thank you in advance!

Best Regards,
Weber

Not by expressions to my knowledge, but the points you snap should be associative to the geometry and update on model changes.
the position of the view is called Anchor point and can be found in the Edit view Boundary dialog. Imagine a long axle, detailed at the ends but simply straight in the center,
you create detail views of the ends, and use "anchor point" to center the detail view to the detailed end's. then when the length of the axle changes, the detail views will still show the respective end of the axle.

( Also the parent view of the detail views have an anchor point that you can set, that will then dictate how that view expands when the axle becomes longer/shorter.)

Does this help ?

Tomas

Hi Tomas,

thank you for your post.
Your way of controlling the views works well.
Now I can control them with expressions as well (control position of datum objects and use them for the view).
