I tried to open a single NX file that was provided by a customer and I get the following errors:

AIMS Warning
A call was made to AIMS library, which is not loaded.
I Clicked OK on the error.

Open Error
Could not open XXX.prt.
The following files could not be loaded, causing the open to fail:

XXX.prt - Foreign surface error. See syslog for details.
I Clicked Ok on error and the file did not load.

Can somebody please help me figure out how to open this file?
The customer is telling me they do not have a problem opening it.

FYI I mainly use Catia/CREO to design, so I am not very knowledgeable with NX and its errors.

That's OK; I've been using UG/NX for over 15 years and I've never seen an AIMS warning or a foreign surface error.

The post title mentions NX 12; was the file created in NX 12 (vs. imported)? Are you and the customer on the same patch level of NX 12? Menu
-> help -> about NX -> system information will show you the exact patch you are running.

I have a utility that checks the NX version of the file and according to it, the NX Part Version is 8.

Since the file was made from NX 8, I am going to say we are not on the same patch level.

My NX Information:
NX Version: NX 12.0.0.27
NX Phase: 27
NX Patch: None

The primary use of NX for me is to convert NX files to Catia so my shop can read the models.

My concern was if you were running an older version (patch) of NX than what the file was last saved in; since you are running a newer version, the file should open without issue. I'd suggest contacting your local reseller and/or Siemens technical support (GTAC).

NX is pretty good at importing/exporting STEP files. Perhaps your customer can send you a STEP file and you can just import that to Catia?

Don't forget that NX has the ability to convert directly to Catia, without STEP, so be sure to utilize that.

I have reached out to our reseller to see what they recommend.
The Step file is the next solution, we have already reached out and requested it.
I just want to figure out the issue in the first place.

I will update this post if I can figure out the problem.

As for the conversion from NX to Catia, I do not have the license for that.

I have another software called Elysium which we use to convert NX to Catia, which works better than anything else I have seen.

As far as I know there is not an extra cost for the NX to Catia translator, but I could be wrong. I have been using NX for 30 years, and it has been on it at least that long.
Yes, please keep the post updated.

I cannot even find an existing (GTAC) ticket with this warning.
I suppose you are not allowed to post that model on here?

You are correct, I am not allowed to share the model.

Siemens came back with the following response:

I was able to duplicate the file not opening. Prior to the file failing to open there is a warning about "A call was made to AIMS library, which was not loaded".
The AIMS library is a Boeing data repository and GTAC does not have access to it. You might try contacting Boeing for the library and see if you can open the file after installing the library.

So that explains why I could not find anything on the AIMS library.

Customer provided a STEP file and I just used that file to convert to Catia.
