Running NX-6.0.2.8

Seems we've lost the functionality for selecting items from sub-assembly components.

The usual fix to this is simply setting the toggle switch correctly:
From the Main Toolbar
--> Preferences
--> Assemblies
--> Component Member Select = toggle on

That's it, all the magic you need. Though now the toggled setting makes no difference at all, in either configuration.

It seems now you have to Wave everything into the master assembly level since the setting is ineffective.

I must have something defined wrong, and I'm wondering if anyone knows how to initiate the logic again?
Or is there another setting to change?

My Selection Scope is set to Entire Assembly. Though I've also tried Within Work Part and Components; as well as all of the logical Type Filer settings.

It's working fine using NX 6.0.5.3.

Now it might very well be working correctly for you as well, it might just be some confusion as to what it really does and when.

To start with, when selecting from the screen using the cursor, there are two different schemes. 'Global Selection' is when you select an object BEFORE any dialog is opened and then you select the function/operation. This mode is also referred to as 'Object-Action'. The other scheme is to first select a function, say Hide or Delete, and the Class Selection dialog comes up and then you select whatever objects you wish to perform the selected operation on. This also called working in an 'Action-Object' mode.

Now back to the 'Component Member Select' option in Assembly Preference. This option ONLY has an effect when using the Class Selection dialog. If you're using Global Selection, it has no effect whatsoever.

Now as for the issue of selecting a subassembly, there are several approaches. If you're using Global Selection, then the QuickPick dialog can be used to select either the Component, objects in the Component or a Subassembly if the Component was a member of a Subassembly. You can also select either Components or Subassembly by selecting from within the Assembly Navigator. However, if you're selection while a Class Selection dialog is open, and the 'Component Member Select' option is toggled OFF (so that you're selecting the Component and not the objects inside the component), once you select any one of the Components in the Subassembly, simply select the 'Up One Level' icon on the Selection Bar and this will select the next level Subassembly. If there are several levels of Subassembly, subsequent selection of this icon will allow you to 'walk-up' the Assembly tree until you reach the Subassembly level that you wish to select.

Anyway, review my comments above and check to see if this is how your system is working. If it is, then it's working as it was intended to work.
