John!

What do you think about de NX4 and NX6 on linux, talk about Good and bad points. And the windows 7?

I used both in linux Suse and Ubuntu.

Thanks a lot.

I have virtually no experience using NX on anything but Windows. Current I'm running on Windows 7 and so for so good. The only problems I've had is that it seems that when Windows 7 goes to 'sleep' it REALLY GOES TO SLEEP. So hard in fact that when I'm working at home it will kill my VPN connection as well as the NX flexlicense 'heartbeat' (this last issue we're working on to see if there's some way to circumvent that situation). And before some says that I should just turn off the sleep-mode, our corporate IT security people have set-up ALL of our systems so that they are forced to go into sleep/screen lock mode and there is nothing that we can do about it except to set the timeout period, which I think is limited to only 45-60 minutes so that's a bit of pain in the youknowhat.

However, as far as NX is concerned, running on Windows 7 has not been a problem and the performance has been very good. And before anyone asks, while the oldest version that I've done a full install from scratch with was NX 6.0, I've copied over images of all the versions back to UG V16.0 and they all seem to work fine with the possible exception of UG V17.0 which throws an error when it starts about some missing library file, but once I accept the error it continue to load and eventually runs just fine. Now I have to admit that some of the older releases would probably have issues connecting to the latest version of MS Excel, but everything seems to work fine with at least NX 5.0 forward.

And yes, due to running both pre- and post-NX 5.0 versions I'm having to run both the old and the new license servers on my laptop, again with no apparent problems.

All in all, from what I've seen, Windows 7 is a step up from even XP (despite having to find everything all over again ;-)

I had the possibility to test UG V18 couple of months ago on a brand new WXP box...
A customers was out of maintenance and want to re-enter with the new NX7.5.
I was astonished about the performance.
All it's flasy!

... obviously the V18 user interface sound a little odd to me...

I'm really happy to swap the performance with the new Block Based UI.
