NX 9 Changes Windows Theme

I have NX9 installed but I haven't started using it yet because I hate the way it changes the theme of my whole system. I have transparency enabled in windows and the title bars are nice and dark (good eye relief for working all day). When I start NX9, the transparency shuts off, and the title bars are very light (all windows in all programs, not just NX9). I really don't want to hear how I can change colors or anything, I can do that and I realize that. I want any suggestions on how to STOP NX9 from changing Windows Visualization! NX8 has no problems at all...

I have "Enable Transparency" checked in NX... so that is not the issue. I think it might be a Windows setting, or a graphics card setting.
Computer specs:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
Processor Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1240 V2 @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
Name NVIDIA Quadro K2000
Adapter RAM (2,147,483,648) bytes

Do you have any helpful suggestions?

I may be misunderstanding the question. So I apologize if this is not what you are looking for.....

If you go to MENU - PREFERENCES - USER INTERFACE, then click on the "Layout Tab"... You can change the theme to a Classic theme and check or uncheck Enable Transparency.

Yes, As I said, I have followed that step to ensure that "Enable Transparency" is set on. It has no effect on any of the windows. It does not enable or disable any window transparency. That's why I am thinking it is a System setting.

I am wondering if there is a System setting or maybe an NVidia setting that could be turning off the transparency? It is still odd that NX8 works and NX9 doesn't...

Enable transparency is working only on full screen and it works well for me

I am talking about title bar transparency of all the other applications (IE10, Outlook, Skype, PLM software, etc.). Not the transparency of the info boxes within NX. AERO effects are automatically turned off upon startup of NX9, but they still work with NX8.

How do I keep AERO effects on?

Have you tried updating to the latest driver for your video card?

If you still have problems after that, I'd suggest checking GTAC's list of "certified drivers", and use the latest "certified" driver for your card. If a "certified" driver is still giving you problems, contact GTAC and have them help.

Thanks! It looks like the driver may be out of date... I'm downloading now. I will let you know if this is it or not.

Thanks again.

That did not work... Back to square 1.

No I have not. That may have to be my next step.

You may be running NX in a compatibility mode. Right-click on the icon you use to start NX, click Properties-Compatibility, then check if "Disable Visual Designs" or "Deactivate Desktop Design" are set. If so, uncheck them.

I checked, no compatibility issues or visualization settings checked. It still is a problem.

I'm not sure which is more frustrating, the fact that Aero shuts off, or the fact that I can't figure out the problem!

Windows automatically switches themes from Aero to Basic whenever it thinks it's running low on resources (battery, CPU, GPU, RAM etc). Judging by the specs you posted, your machine is more than adequate, however. Some programs are known to cause erroneous switches under certain circumstances (like Teamviewer), but NX is not one of them. Here are a few more basic things you can try:

* Make sure there isn't a massive resource hog running in the background (like a Bitcoin miner), or some spyware that shows your desktop to a remote user whenever you start NX 9.
* Have a sysadmin (if you have one) examine your system and at least make sure that this isn't some "performance optimization" they did to your workstation. Especially if the switch happens every single time you start NX 9, never otherwise, and you get no Windows alert about you resources being low.
* Make sure the video driver installed is the latest NX-certified one (as cowski suggested above), not the most recent available.

Barring all that it looks like calling GTAC is your only remaining option, short of a full system wipe and reinstall.

Here's a shot in the dark.
The Lenovo laptops we use have Nvidia Quadro cards. Along with this in Win7 came a feature called Optimus which is intended to save power by automatically switch the graphics from the Nvidia card to the "internal graphics" ( The Nvidiaa card is "paused") . The problem we had at the time was that Teamcenter did not survive the switch. We have therefore disabled Optimus in the Bios.
We had this issue a couple of years ago , don't know if the problem still exists, we still disable Optimus.

Tomas
