NX Customization: Network Vs Local Location?

I'd appreciate your comments on how your company has set up its NX customization (templates, UDF, re-usable library, Open API dll, etc): are you using a common network location for all or instead placing everything on the user's local drive and deploying/updating via automated tools?

We use the method in the above link with everything on the users machine and have a login script that copies any new files so when changes are made they get them at login.
We used to put everything on network but that presents problems for laptop travelers and slow networks.
