NX Dual Monitor Issue

Hello All,

I finally received some new hardware (Dell T5400, NVIDIA Quadro FX570, but old HP 19L1906 Monitors and system is running 32 bit..not 64) and it cured what appeared to be a selection limit issue in NX7.5. I couldn't use the lasso at all..but that is fixed now.

However, I can no longer resize NX across multiple monitors. It instantly crashes. I tried fixing this by moving my Resource Bar to a toolbar and working with it's components in individual windows over on the other Monitor, but I am not satisfied. Do you know of some setting I need to adjust to allow this to perform better? Also, I just tried another test and switching back out of full-screen display (on just the one monitor) produced the same error: "Fatal error detected unable to continue died displaying error message"

Any help or suggestions will be rewarded with good cheer. I noticed in another post (thread561-280195) that improvements were being made so I bet there is a solution.

Thanks for your time!

Another question...

Are there nay problems if you just move say the Navigators or Menus/Dialogs to one display but leave the graphics window on the other without any atempt to span the same window across both monitors?

John, are you saying you can decouple the graphics window from the application window? Or to you mean stretch your application window across both monitors and then split the graphics from the undocked toolbars.

Sorry, I misspoke. You can however detach Dialogs, Navigators and the Listing Window so at least these can be shown and interacted with on one monitor while the main NX window (which would include the graphics window) would be on the other. Note that this is supported even if the monitors are of a different size and/or resolution.

in your grapfic device monitor settings you have to /can define the primary monitor - use nx only on the primary monitor, display - in most cases the trouble in Nx, another problem might be if you switch often between 2 and 1 monitor, in the role/user.mtx the positon <FloatInfo x="400" y="500" width="900"/> of the dialogs is stored with x and y coordinates may miss something in the one monitor setting.

John, indeed the Navigators and such work fine on the other Monitor (I just like how the toggling is better keeping the resource stuff pinned within the graphics window).

Also, the Monitors are the same. As a bonus, while verifying their settings I stumbled upon the nView display mode: "As one large horizontal desktop (Horizontal span)"...this cured my complaint. I like it. Maximizing windows across two screens can be annoying or take some getting used to in other programs, but it is better than crashing NX! ((I'll post back here this week if I discover any further issues with it.))

Thanks everyone for your replies, and have a great Holiday!

Alright...back at wrecking things for myself. IT dropped off some big bad 24" Monitors. All is well, and I really like having NX on one screen now that I have a screen large enough. However, the only failure I have found is now I can no longer use 'True Shading' this causes the same failure I had up in the start of this thread crashing NX.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

Thanks,
KLINE

my guess is it's graphics driver related. start a session of NX, cause the crash and then have a look in the NX log file.
if it's driver related you should find something like below the key part being (nvoglnt):

+++ General Fault Exception
[ 1] 698267F9 (nvoglnt)
>>>> O/S ERROR: signal 11 caught in file ".\EVTLoop.cpp" at line number 1526
>>>> O/S ERROR: signal 11 caught in file "O:\ugnx505\ip3\src\ugui\no\ind\dlg_main.c" at line number 1609
!!!&MACRO DIALOG_END -3, 0 ! : Auto Cancel

That means that the open gl driver was what brought down NX. The best course of action is to update to the certified driver from the GTAC site:

Namdaci45, thanks for the reply. I suppose in a few of my last posts people hinted or told me it was the drivers, but I (not knowing much about them) figured if my card was approved, and drivers were up-to-date I was good. This proved to not be the case. I went through the install of the version meant for NX7 and now all is well on my new 24"
screen (Seems a bit sharper too!).

Thanks All,
