NX freezing when creating a spun outline

I received some STP files from a customer, then imported them into NX (7.5.3.3). Although I saw some degeneracy comments during the import, the part seem fine once in NX (clipped section views showed the the part was solid all over, no sheets, nor graphical hiccups).

I created a CAM setup with the casting and the finished part. After selecting the part and the blank, I selected Turning_Workpiece to generate the spun outline. This would freeze NX. I tried again with just the casting in the setup; again, no luck.

I was hoping I could at least get an error and then perhaps use something like angled planes to generate the outline, but no matter what I try with those models NX will freeze.

Any ideas?

Ergh! It seems the models are not as clean as I initially thought. Zooming in close reveals "double lines" at many tangent/blended surfaces.

Run the 'examine geometry' command from the analysis menu, it will report any potential problems with the model. After that, I would suggest running the 'heal geometry' command. This will attempt to fix geometry and leave you with an unparameterized copy of your part (not a problem since you are starting with a step file anyway). Run examine geometry again on the healed file to see if the model is in better shape.

Thanks Cowski. That seems to have worked. :)
I still cannot use the spun outline, but now NX does not freeze during the attempt and will at least generate an outline using angled planes.

Run Optimize face from the synchronous modeling tool bar.
This has helped me several times.

Nice! Optimizing the faces helped alot. Thanks Matnas. :)
Again, NX still can only generate an outline using planes at angles, but before the outline was missing some smalls details using only heal geometry (such as datums pads) that have now shown up in the outline.

If the automatic fails, the system should fall back to planes at angles. If you know your geometry is problematic, just set planes at angles as the default, and save yourself some time and frustration.

This was the first time it ever happened (freezing up, that is).
Besides, I'm glad it did now. I never would have learned about geometry heal, and optimize face from this great forum otherwise. :)
