Hi I am working in a software MNC...in which we are working for oil and gas customer...We need to create part families for some pump parts like diffusers, impellers etc..In pro/e we can create a family table in a instance also..but in NX 8.5 we are unable to create a family table inside a family table member of another part...Can any one please help if it is possible to create family table in child part of the table...? Thanks in advance.

Yes this is possible, first create part A with family table, than you have A-1, A-2, A-3,... Then create an assembly B with component A-1 for example (and other parts probably). When creating a part family in assy B choose Components in the pull down menu on top of the Part Families screen, add this to the excell sheet. Now you can create B-1 with A-1, B-2 with A-2. You can add other components (for ex. C)to the table and make combinations for the different states of the assy. B-1 = A-1 & C-3, B-2 = A-2 & C-1, etc....

Best regards,

Michaël.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply..But my doubt is exactly like below.

Suppose I created a part A with diameter 3 inch and hight 7 inch..I am creating children part under this master part named as A-1, A-2....

Now again I want to create the children parts B-1,B-2... under the A-1 part created in the part family...Similarly I want create C-1 and C-2 under A-2 So I want Hierarchy as

A
1.A-1 2. A-2
1. B-1 1. C-1
2. B-2 2. C-2

Can you please clarify whether it is possible to create a nested part family or not...?

Are you creating assembly family tables or single part, multiple option family tables?

For parts, both Pro/E and NX, like simple changes within a family table. Hardware items are best defined with Family tables as you change 1 values (diameter) and it drives the head size and then you have your length options. I like to limit my tables to 1 or 2 direct variables with model changes driven from them. When you get into FTs with 5 or more variables that are driven, I have to think those parts may be better off in a separate file or even stand alone parts, maybe copied from a master. Since you only need to create the instances once, why make complex FT's that may cause regeneration failures.
