I'm switching my role from "Advanced with full menus" to "Essentials". Is there a way to get rid of the text under each icon using essentials?

I see what you mean and what you are looking for.
I think that all roles with the word "Essentials" in the name has the text under the icons, and that the "stripped down" UIF- modes only seems to exist with the text. (?)
What you want is a stripped role but without the text.
I don't think it exists ootb.
It's quite quick to make it yourself, see the attached image.
I.e turn off the text for the toolbars you like to keep on screen. ( remember to do this in the other applications you use also since the role covers all applications.)
Then Rightclick in the roles palette ( -to the side of the existing roles) and select "New User Role" , enter a name of the role and possibly an image. + OK.

The "role" will then be stored in
C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local\Unigraphics Solutions\NX75\roles ( where version of NX etc will vary)
The first role will have the name "nx_role0.mtx".

The file(s) can be copied to other computers and placed equivalently.

Tomas

Tools -> Customize -> Toolbars (tab), select a toolbar from the list on the left and uncheck the "Text below icon" option on the right.
