Hi Guys,
I would like to make an external radial chamfer on the edge of a part. So far I have been able to do an angular chamfer on the edge of a part with a planar profile operation and setting the tracking point accordingly with a chamfer tool.

How do I accomplish the same thing but with an external radius chamfer tool?

many thanks,
James

Are you talking about rounding the corner? If so, the process is the same, except use a user defined milling tool. If you retrieve from the library, there are several corner rounding tools provided as samples.

Hi Mark,
many thanks for the reply. Yes, corner rounding tool. I did think that might be the case but could not find how to add the library tool to my planar mill operation. Any examples of how to do this?

best regards and thanks!

cheers,
James

Hi Mark,
I found the corner rounding tools in the library. I will play with them now...

many thanks for the help!

cheers,

Be sure to use planar_profile, not planar milling.
If the corner is modeled sharp, select the edge and use the SHARP_CORNER tracking point as the drive point.
If the corner is modeled as a blend, select edges at the vertical tangent point, and use PILOT_DIA as the drive point.
You can also adjust using Z-Depth Offset and Part Stock.

Hi Mark,
thanks for the info. I will play with this. All the tracking point stuff is still a bit of a mystery for me. Do you know of any tutorials for this?

cheers,
James

Many tool types have tracking points as part of their definition. They have many uses, including output and cutcom. In the case or planar profile, instead of the system using the tool shape to position the tool, you can select which tracking point is the "drive point" that will follow the boundary.
