Greetings:

In importing a .dwg file into NX11, the command seems to function fine; however, after the import, the geometry is no where to be seen. Can anyone assist with this issue?

I do this in NX9 all the time and after import, I always have to hit control+F, and the geometry comes into view. It is not working this way in NX11.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

First, check the layer dialog to see if any objects were imported and what layer they are on. In the layer settings dialog, switch the "show" option to "layers with objects" and make sure all the layers with objects are turned on. Now perform the fit view operation. If none of the layers have an object count, then something went wrong and nothing was imported.

If you still don't see anything, note that sometimes the geometry is imported as "view dependent" meaning it only shows up in a specific view. Try right clicking in the modeling graphics window and selecting replace view -> top. Cycle through the views until you find the right one. You can then use the view dependent edit command to convert the geometry from view to model. This will make the geometry show up in all the model views.

I tried all the above, still nothing. There were no counts in any of the layers; however, I see the layers that I imported labeled just like I had them in AutoCAD. I also see the geometry when I preview it, just before OK importing into the model. It seems to work just like NX9, only I cannot see the geometry. Puzzling.

If there are no object counts reported in the layers dialog, then nothing was imported. A ".log" file is usually generated when importing parts; check the import log file (it is plain text) to see if any errors are reported. Also, you can check the NX log file for errors. After attempting an import, open menu -> help -> log file and scroll to the bottom (the most recent messages are at the bottom); scan up the file for any errors related to the import process.

quite often the view where the import is visible is named "active-1".

Try resetting the import dialog, such that any personal mistakes are erased.

I wonder if the Windows update that messed up the STEP translator has also messed up the DXF/DWG translator as well - from the Siemens forums????

I've had some issues, too. Sometimes if I import, save, close, then re-open, it shows up. Don't ask me why.

Thanks Cowski, we are all on Win7 , we have not seen any issues.

Tomas

Just confirming John2025. I did import, save, close and re-open, then the entities show up. Hmmm

If this is what is going on, I think a call to GTAC is warranted - that is NOT operating as it should.

Sorry for not responding in a more timely manner, toost - I don't lurk around here as much as I once did.
