We do all of our design work in solid bodies. One unit can have a riser bracket, a blade, clamp cylinders, clamp arms, pins shotpins, simple brackets, etc... A tool can have 20 or more units.
Another group we have runs another program for plant layouts and they often need to take an entire tool designed in NX and have it exported out as one large sheetbody so they can import it into autocad.
We had an old program that used to do this but with NX11 upgrade it stopped working. The original was using DLL files so we cant really break it down and see what exactly it was doing. All we can do is create our own.
The rules I know of...
1) It has to be united into one body. They cant be dealing with moving a ton of small bodies around constantly.
2) It has to be a small file size.
3) Dont know if this is a must but it used to remove all shims and spacers and bolt heads and such, and extracted the surfaces without holes.
So basically they just want one large glob of the outer shape of the tool.
To my understanding, this was done by creating a linked exterior or geometry linker to create all of the faces into one body of sheetmetal surfaces.... or something like that.
A gentleman here (dont let him know I called him that) has been working on two journals. One to blank all of the components the user does not want. the second one creates the surfaces and exports it out as a parasolid or something. Unfortunately he has been running into some issues.
One issue I know of is something about when the parts are blanked out, the second journal will for some strange reason take one of the bolt heads or spacers we dont want and create the body for it anyway and place it at absolute. I think the other problem is that depending on different scenarios, the file ends up too large. Unfortunately since he is not here until Monday, I cant get the exact details.
I was wondering if someone can look at the code and see if you can tell what is causing some issues? I will attach the blank code to this post and I will attach the second journal to a reply post.
