Is there any way of disabling auto "Select Part" feature that is associated with NX12 drawing Base View creation?
I'm working on an extremely large assembly model file with dozens upon dozens of sub-assemblies feeding sub-assemblies.
Drawing file created by linking to the "Highest Level Assembly" (Trained to do so by employer).
When I choose "Base View" load option, I'm prompted with the "Base View Dialog Box" which automatically loads the "Highest Level Assembly".
Is there a way to deactivate the Automatic "Select Part" feature?

NX12 repeatedly loads the Highest Level Assembly during every separate Base View initiation.
Because of its size, Highest Level Assembly can take minutes to load.
This issue is slowly converting a 1-week task into a 1-month task since project will consist of (15) 24 Zone scroll style drawing sheets with hundreds of views.
Please advise.....

Actually, once an assembly is loaded it will not be loaded again by NX. I am assuming you are talking about building the placement preview of the base view.
If you have large assemblies it will take time to build this placement preview.
You can change this behavior in the Drafting Preferences by setting it to "border". It will only show you the view border when placing a view.

Hello NutAce,

Yes, "Building the Placement Preview" is a more accurate description.
Apparently, Preview Building Time is proportional to model size that has been selected.
Unfortunately, changing Preview Style from "Shaded" to "Border" (within Base View Dialog Box) does not equate to significant reduction in preview build time.

Is there any way to prevent automatic part selection when initiating "Base View Dialog Box".
Base View is auto selecting "Highest Level Assembly" every time I generate a Base View. This auto selection of large part file is the root cause of my delay.
I do not need to build preview for "Highest Level Assembly" every time I initiate Base View command.
I would like to deactivate this auto selection. Instead, I would prefer the "Base Dialog Box" to appear with no part geometry selected.
This will allow me to select part file manually every time and avoid extended wait period associated with auto-select of "Highest Level Assembly".
Please advise.

Couldn't find a setting which accomplishes this.

Also tried to save a favorite in the Menu where all parts have been deselected. Also doesn't work.
Next time that you activate the Base View command it selects the top level of your assembly.

How are you loading your assemblies? Lightweight? , partially? full?

NutAce,

Model is loaded as "Partially Load - Lightweight Display" which should yield the smallest model file size during Base View Preview generation.

You can try to hide the "Small Features" in the base view settings. Not sure if this also helps with the placement of a view.

Why don't you use the View Creation wizzard? When you make the below setting in the Drafting Preferences,

the Wizzard will give you more options for large assemblies (Without that setting you don't see these)

Also, have a look at representations. This will create lightweight representations on the toplevel of your assembly. You can load your assembly structure only and still see your complete 3D model.
There are some restrictions when you you these on your drawings (no section cuts, no high detail) but for creating your views it is really fast.

After you have placed the view(s), you can then load the component(s) to get the full data and you will have the full capabilities again.
