So far since updating to NX1872, every time I create family parts, this error pops up for each family member I create. Recently I did one with over a thousand members and I had to spend time after it was finally done just clicking my mouse on OK as fast as I could to close them all. Everything seems to hang up and not react while it is creating the members, so I am forced to wait until its done.

The thing is, it is listing the last released member that is already created in team center. Im not changing that at all to my knowledge. I revved up the master and created new members at a higher revision. So why is it even doing anything that causes this error to pop up?

I cant seem to get the image to show up.... The error says....

A part family member part is modified.
You will not be able to save the changes to it.
(Then it names the part file)

Customer Defaults - Assemblies - General - Miscellaneous - Display Message when Modifying Part Family Members - uncheck. Restart NX.

As for why the members are opened modified - it's a side effect of updating NX: Parts from (much) older NX versions are automatically updated to be compatible with the "current" NX version on open. This is rather unfortunate when it happens to read-only parts such as part family members.

There is a refile program that can be run against a folder to update the files to the latest release of NX.
I used to run it against the folders that contained our standard part libraries.
There is also a TeamCenter version, if you use that.

I checked and found I did have that box checked. It is now unchecked. I will have to wait until the next Family Part I need to update or create to test it. Thanks.

"In the new NX versions, they have phased out the refile utility."

In my perspective they have done a marketing move rather than phase out...
if one looks at the "part_utility.exe" it's "quite similar" to the old Refile.

It might still be completely different in some aspects but the ability to "version up" in batch mode is now named Part_Utility.exe and lives in the NXBIN folder.

Thanks Toost.
Scott Felber's response in this thread makes it sound like the main use of refile_part (versioning up parts) is going away. I've not used the new utility yet, so I'm not sure of what it can/cannot do.
