NX3 Add View From Part and Wave Geometry Link question 1

Dear UG drivers

A bit long winded but here goes.
In NX3 I have created an assembly of a valve (‘partA.prt’) where components were imported and Mated together.
I have then created several Arrangements including an ‘exploded’ view of the parts using the Arrangement Specific logic in Mating Conditions which works kinda fine.
Also I have created and saved a view called ‘exploded-view’ to see these components in an iso type orientation.

When this valve is at rest there is a Seal that is under compression.
I have used Wave Geometry Linker to create a body of the Seal so that when the assembly is at rest this Seal looks like it is being compressed by another component, the distance of which can be adjusted by the Mating Conditions.
This waved body Seal has been moved to a unique layer and named ‘waved-seal’.
Now if I create a sectioned view in drafting of the valve, and use visible in view, I can show neatly the compressed seal, all fine so far.

I wish to create a separate drawing/part file showing only the exploded valve assembly in an iso orientated view, so in a new part file (‘partB.prt’) I use Add View from Part, then choose the part file (‘partA.prt’) and the dialog box appears along with one of the basic views showing my assembly.

Why can I not now select my saved view ‘exploded-view’ as from ‘partA.prt’?

So having orientated the view via the Orient View Tool my second problem occurs, how to remove the Wave Geometry Linked bodies in view, as the Hide Component selection does not see these Wave Geometry Linked bodies as components?

My work-round has been to ensure that in ‘partA.prt’ my Arrangement ‘exploded’ has these Wave Linked bodies repositioned far enough away from the original assembly so that in ‘partB.prt’ I can adjust the View Boundary manually to hide these unwanted bodies.

Where am I going wrong, is there a better solution?

Should I not use Add View from Part and instead use Add Existing Component and pull in the assembly ‘partA.prt’ straight in.

Thanks for your patients.

Magdrop,

Per a conversation that I have had with GTAC about this same issue, wave linked objects only "know" the arrangement they are created in. So when you move your arrangement, the linked solids, surfaces etc don't move with the arrangement. As far as a workaround, yours is as good as any I've come up with...

Regards,

Mark
