NX3 install? FlexLM OK, Error during install

FlexLM is properly installed, configured, and shows the license is up and running correctly.

After getting the license to be OK, when trying to install NX3, I get to the screen where you enter XXXXX@computer name.

I have correctly altered this in the license file to my computer's name. Everything seems OK, including the log file in FlexLM.

The error I get is:
Connection to license server machine '<my computer name>' failed. Enter a valid license server

Any help? I can not get past this screen, and have to abort the installation.

Did you select the bundle?

programs > NX 3.0 > Flexlm Tools > License Options the bundle should be selected and displayed at the right hand side.

Be sure and delete the file:

Program Files\UGS\NX 3.0\UGII\psapi.dll

My install gave me a runtime error until this file was deleted. Reference to removal of this file came from UGS.

Also our install required the following at License Server:

27000@<Computer Name> (Example: a120 or in my case the IP address: XXX.XXX.XX.XX because my machine has DNS issues.)

If those steps don't solve your problem, contact GTAC.

Thank you for your help.

4mranch1, I moved (did not delete) the psapi.dll file.

I also completely turned off my firewall, "Norton Personal Firewall 2003"

After these two steps, it installed successfully. :)

During the installation, it asked where psapi.dll file was. When I moved it back, and clicked "Retry", the install went on without a glitch.

I'm guessing it was the firewall.

Thanks again,

Brian

VmaxVboost,

Glad to hear you were able to get NX up and running. In our case we had to delete the psapi.dll file in order for NX to start up.

I feel it might be important to mention that psapi.dll only needs to be deleted when NX3 or NX4 and IE7 are installed on the same computer that is running either Win2K or WinXP.

It's not a solution for any situation where NX won't start, ONLY when the above criteria exist AND specific FATAL ERROR messages are given.

From the UGS GTAC web site:

Symptom/Problem
Attempting to start NX 4 or NX 3, once IE V7.0 is installed, will display an error:

Fatal Error
Fatal error detected unable to continue
The syslog file will have the entry:

Daylight Time
+++ Unhandled operating system exception: e06d7363
[1] 7C812A5B
(kernel32)
[2] 202B908A
(libsyss)
[3] (libsyss)
[4] 202B7AD8

Solution/Workaround
Delete the %UGII_BASE_DIR%/ugii/psapi.dll file.

Note: UGS provided the psapi.dll file for Windows NT compatibility. However, it is no longer needed since it is included in the Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.
