NX4 open directory

Hi,
Maybe I can't see what is right before my eyes. I have a group of prt files that I have copied to a folder on my hard drive. I try to open the assembly and it cannot find any components. I go to Load options and set a search directory and try opening again but no go still. I look at the assembly tree and try to click on a component and it says it can't find the file (under the UGS install folder)... odd. I thought I was telling it to look elsewhere but its not. What am I missing?

Add the directory where the files are to your search directory list (in load options, Define Search Directories). In the New Directory filed, add the directory where the files are saved.

I guess I should have read more closely, looks like you already did what I suggest.

Make sure you have Search Directory selected in load options.

Make sure you didn't misstype the directory path.

If the components are in the same directory as the assembly you can select From Directory as your load method.

Turn on Allow Substitution in your load options. If this is off, NX will try to load the exact version of the component taht was in the assembly when it was saved. If you have newer versions, NX will ignore them.

I'm not sure if this is still required, but in the search directory add \... to the end of the path. This tells NX to search this and all subfolders for the file. First one it finds wins if you have allow substituions set to on. What the allow substitutions does is if it finds a part name that it is looking for but the part Unique ID is different it will load it.

Like what fgbrender stated, make sure you have the search directory toggled in the load options, and save your load options.

There is also a "Load Latest" which is usually greyed out on most installations of NX because you need to tell NX how to differentiat your part naming convention to understand what version is the newest. More information on Part Name Versions go to:
