Hi folks,

I am analyzing some sections using Analysis -> Section Inertia and get the results displayed to 2 decimal places. How can I change the output to 4 decimal places?

Does it show the results in an information window? If so, go to Preferences -> User Interface... Somewhere in there should be options for how many decimal places are displayed.

In that case look in the customer defaults 'Product & Manufacturing Information' -> PMI -> General tab; there is an option there to change the decimal places. Change will take effect next time you start NX and will probably only affect newly created notes. There is probably some way to edit an existing note to change the decimals displayed; right click on it and see what options come up.

The decimal places for the Max and Min Moments of Inertia as well as the Section Length and Area are controlled at...

Preferences -> User Interface -> General

...using the value set for the 'Information Window'.

The other values in the Section Information 'note', for the CG and Moment direction vectors, appear to be hard-coded at 2 places.

cowski, I don't see a decimal place option in PMI customer defaults. Are you using NX5?

John, the information window is set to 9 decimal places in the user interface options, but the MOI is displayed with only two. This is useless for small cross sections.

My apologies, my last answer applies to NX6. I do not have access to NX5 on this computer.

I just checked NX 5.0.6.3 and verified that changing the number of decimal places for the Listing Window under...

Preferences -> User Interface...

...resulted in a change in the MOI results exactly how I described it the first time (which was originally based on NX 6.0). Note that you will need to delete and recreate the Section Inertia note(s) to see these changes since they are NOT associatively linked to the model analyzed.

We have version 5.0.4.1 so maybe that's the problem.

When I get to the office later, I'll test this with that version of NX (I'm at home this morning and don't access to any of the older versions of NX as I only have installed on my laptop the latest releases).

OK, here is what I've learned now that I'm in the office where I can access legacy versions of NX. In NX 5.0.4.1, I'm only getting 2 decimal places for the MOI irrespective of what the Listing Window default has been set to. However, starting with NX 5.0.5.3, this appears to have been fixed (or perhaps 'enhanced') to use the value set for the decimal places displayed in the Listing Window as found in the User Interface Preferences dialog.

So it looks like you need to at least move up to a higher MR of NX 5.0, or upgrade to NX 6.0 or NX 7.0.
