Looks like we are going to NX7. Can anyone tell me how hard it was to go from NX5 to NX7? Is it as big of a change as from NX 3 to NX5?

I hope you're actually going to NX 7.5 and NOT NX 7.0.

While my views and opinions are biased ;-), I think you will find that this update will be less eventful than was your NX 3.0 to NX 5.0 move since you will NOT have the change in dialogs to contend with again. While additional dialogs are being updated to the new style with each release, NX 5.0 was where most of the changes were made.

One piece of advice is that even if you've managed to avoid it in the past, I would highly recommend that you run all of your legacy parts through the 'refile' utility when moving to NX 7.5 (I'm assuming of course that you actually ARE moving to NX 7.5 and not NX 7.0) and that make sure that use the complete set of options which pertains to the updating of lightweight representations and not depend on just opening the files and saving them again.

But please, if any 'real' customers have any opinion on this topic, please jump in with whatever you've learned and which might shed additional light on this topic.

John, thanks for your feedback! I will have to check into NX 7.0 vs 7.5; so far I have just been told we are going to "7". Glad to hear 7 won't be as big of an interface change as 3 to 5 was, that one slowed us down for a while.

Thanks for the advice on the refile utility, I will follow-up on that. We have done it in the past but not recently.

John, (or anyone else who may have some info) is there any word on the next release of NX7.5.x? Some of my co-workers have heard that NX7.5.2 is going to be released very soon, however I've had no luck confirming this using Google.

NX 7.5.2.5 was released to customers and made available for download from the GTAC support site on November 9, 2010.

If you would like to be included on future email notifications of releases and other important support information, may I suggest that you go to...

nag 57,
Our Company recently jumped from NX5 to 7.5 and the process has been relatively painless. 7.5 seems to run a little smoother and has a lot more tools for direct modeling. I think the hardest adjustment has been just learning where some of the commands from 5 have been moved to. They've left the command finder in place though, so its really not much of an issue at all. As John as said, the refile utility is a great idea if you make the shift, as assembly mating conditions have undergone a major overhaul functionality-wise it seems.

Hope this helps, but I'd recommend making the shift for sure.

Whats the best way to refile NX files managed and released in Teamcenter?

There should be a script/batch file for refile. Check with your TC admin.
