I have noticed when you load an assembly and you have a part not load because it was obsoleted. I know in NX4 on the assembly tree, you could right click on that part and then get as one of the selections "open as". In using NX6, I do not see this option when I right click on a part on the assembly tree. The only option I have been able to do is replace a part. There really is no problem if it is a small part, but on large parts, it seems to take forever to replace them. Is there some setting that needs to be set so we can open as or is that just not avaliable with NX6?

I got this from a previous posting that was similar to this one. This response is from John baker:

Note that starting with NX 6.0, both 'Substitute Component' and 'Open Component As' have been replaced by a single new function titled 'Replace Component'. This does not require that you first Close and then re-Open Part files, plus it also combines the menus and options of the two pre-NX 6.0 legacy functions onto a single new-style dialog.

Here is the post that I got it from:

An aspect of the new "substute component" that I do not like is that it completely closes out the part (or assembly) that was substituted.

Is there a way to substitute the part and still have it open in NX?
