Does anyone know how to make an exploded view in a drawing with NX6. i am able to create an exploded assembly but cannot figure out how to show it in a drawing.

While in modeling take note of which view you exploded. In the bottom left hand corner there should be a label, something like TOP WORK Camera FRONT (EXPLODED). In this case, the TOP view is the one that has been exploded and you must make sure you are adding this view on the drafting side.

I'm pretty sure that, if you're using the Master Modeling approach, you must create the exploded view in the drawing part, not the master part. (Subject to better advice, of course.)

My advise would be to change the name of the view that you are in to something like "exploded", and then put that view on your drawing.

VIEW > OPERATION > SAVE AS

Also, make sure the explosion is active when you place the view. You can switch to 'no explosion' and add an unexploded view or activate the explosion and add the exploded view.

Actually, I think you should have saved the view under a differnt name (as I mentioned above) before you did the explosion.

jerry1423,
Not bad advice about saving a specific view just for the explosion, that way you do not have to manage the explosion state when adding the view to the drawing. But it works just fine without saving a dedicated view and personally, I find it easier to just toggle the explosion state rather than replacing views (I have used it both ways).

Once you have added the view to the drawing sheet the explosion state of the view in modelling should not matter. In other words you can side by side add and exploded view and the same view in unexploded state to the drawing and then swap between view states in modelling to edit the explosion without compromising the appearance of the drawing. the real reason that you often want to save an exploded view under another name is to ensure that you have saved an easy way to re-orient yourself to the correct camera angle since many times you exploded view does not correspond to one of the standard canned system views.

I hope that makes things clearer for those who seem to wavering back and forward about why to prefer one method to another. What I prefer to do is save the exploded view that I have created under a name that indicates that it is in fact used for a explosion, but I don't save a second view for the unexploded state because I know that I simply don't need to.

As an additional tip I also avoid using perspective on exploded views as the clipping plane issues can be annoying to maintain.

Best Regards
