Hi all,

I used to be able to Measure Distance in Associative mode and toggle on create line. I believe in past versions the line updated if you changed the model. I think there were 2 options in an expression Measure Distance. One to Create Line and another to Create Points. These also updated when the model was revised.

Is this feature gone in NX6? I cant seem to get it to work now and update the resulting line.

Thanks all!!!

If you expand "results display" in the "measure distance" menu you can change the annotation to "create line", it is probably currently set to "none"

No its on and it creates the line.....it doesnt appear to be a live entity anymore. It doesnt update with model changes. Is there a hidden toggle or something to get the resultant line parametric or to capture the end points still? I cant seem to find it.

Its weird too...if you edit the resulting feature in the model tree, Crete Line is greyed out. Its like it creates line on the original check but that line isnt live any more. The measurement does update. But I want to use the end points of the line as the model changes. Is there another way to capture this from the measurement? Or an option to make create line a parametric entity?

Thanks all!!

I don't think the minimum distance line will update with model changes no matter what combination of options you use (even though the distance measurement does).

Yeah thats what I am seeing. I could swear it used to in previous versions. Somebody probably fixed something again!#@!%&!**@@...argggghhh!!!

:)

If anyone has a trick to get a minimum distance line that updates, or min distance points that update...greatly appreciated!!

Thanks all!!

While the Measurement (the Expression created when the 'Assocative' option is toggled ON) will update if your models change, the 'Line' will NOT (and it NEVER has).

Thanks John..........I swear I remember doing this in a previous rev. I must have thought it was updating.

Do you know of any way to get the measuremnt data and create a point or line from it. I want a parametric line or points that update as the geometry changes.

The only thing we have like that is the CG (Center of Gravity) automatically being created as a 'smart' Point when you do a Mass Property calculation with the Associative option ON.

If you're serious about something like this, perhaps it could be done using KF (Knowledge Fusion), creating a line which would update as the bodies moved or were modified.

Hi Everyone,

Would a bridge curve work between two points? If it does, then it would be an associative line.

The trick is getting the 2 points to be associative to the 2 bodies, but even then, after an update there's no assurance that these points would still represent the end points of the shortest distance (line) between the 2 bodies.

Thanks all..........I will keep digging. Has to be a trick. May need another approach.

Happy Thanksgiving all!!
