We are gearing up for NX7.5 and TC 8.3 and we are looking at getting all the customer defaults set up.

I have imported the existing NX4 ones without any problem and pointed the envionment variable at a new directory to read the modifed file, however, if we take pre-selection and selection as an example, I have set these to magenta and red respectively as per our site standard.

When we open a new NX session and look in the customer default files, the colour settings for the selections are all correct, the syslog shows us pointing to the correct places etc, but if I hover over piece of geometry or pick it, the system is still using the OOTB colours of salmon for preselection and orange for selected.

Any ideas where we are missing a trick please? Please see attached image

Best regards

Are you starting with a brand new blank file (generated using your new customer defaults) or with a template file?

Some of the customer default settings are session specific and some are part specific. Those that are part specific will be controlled by the part you open.

Genius Cowski! Thanks! I was using the standard modelling template from file new! So I guess I have to recreate the template file?

BTW, if you ever need to check whether a Customer Default option is Part or Session specific, the best way to discover that is to go to the 'Find' option (the icon with the binoculars in the upper-right corner of Customer Default dialog), enter the name of the default and when the list comes up, scroll all the way to the right and you will find a column where it indicates what the 'Scope' of that setting is.

When it says 'Part' that means that this setting is assigned to a Part file when it is initially created and then that setting is SAVED with the Part when it is saved. After that, generally the only way that you can change that setting is via Preferences and then you have to remember to save the file for that setting to be remembered.

For settings in which the 'Scope' was 'Session' this means that changing them in Customer Defaults and restarting NX will cause the settings to now be the ones used by ALL part files. Note that with the advent of Dialog Memory, many of these 'Session' settings can now be changed while running NX and dialog memory will control what they are set to the next time you perform some relevant operation, even if it's in a future session of NX. In that case, the ONLY way to return the system back to what is set in Customer Defaults is to 'reset' your dialog memory, which you can do by going to...

Preferences -> User Interface -> General

...and selecting the last button on the bottom of the dialog labeled 'Reset Dialog Box Settings'. But be aware that this resets ALL of the settings for ALL of the dialogs across ALL of NX. If you only wish to reset a single dialog, open that dialog and select the 'Reset' button (as shown below):

Is there a tool to get the settings from existing part into my customer defaults?
