Does anyone know of a way to inherit the clearance plane set in the mcs group in a drill operation so that you do not have to specify a clearance plane in every drill op. I know in the milling operations under non-cutting moves/tranfer-rapid tab you can set it to use inherited but in a drill operation you have to set the clearance plane in avoidance and use inherited is not an option. Any ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Out of the box, the clearance plane inherits automatically. If you have made your own drilling templates, make sure that the inheritance for "Smart Clearance Plane" is turned on for the template operations.

If you have already specified a plane in avoidance in the operation, and you want to go back to inheriting, go to the details panel in the Operation Navigator and turn the inheritance on. Be sure to hit the big green check mark!

Okay I managed to change the avoidance in an existing operation and then go back to inheriting the clearance plane from the MCS. So I have that part.

But in my personal drilling template, I am not getting it to work, in the inherited from column for the Smart Clearance Plane, it says default value instead of the mcs group, and I am assuming that is the reason that I am not getting it to work. How do I go about editing that?

Thanks.

In your template on the operation navigator select the dependency panel and make sure clerance plane status and smart clerance plane are both active.
