NX7.5 Load Options

We are currently planning on upgrading from NX6 to NX7.5 in late November. As part of this, we are planning on re-filing all of our parts to take advantage of the greater use of lightweight representations in assemblies.

To make sure we don't run into any issues, I've been running the re-file utility on copies of various files, and I've come across something interesting that I think may be related to load options.

In NX6, we have "Use Partial Loading" set, and things work as expected.

IN NX7.5, I see that in addition to partial loading, there is also an option to use lightweight representations. This is where it gets interesting.

If I have just one or the other of the above options checked, the drawings open exactly as they did in NX6. However, if I have both of those options selected, then the drawing views appear out of date and all of the dimensions are un-associated. At this point, the only two solutions are to change the load options and re-open the drawing, or to fully load the component. It appears that the drawing is loading the lightweight rep, when it really needs the exact rep.

Anybody else notice this? How did you solve it?

Chris, this might be related to a problem that has been reported since at least NX6, that identifies that sub-assemblies are not being saved when changes are made to them. All I have gleaned from the internet is that different versions if NX7.5 behave in different ways. I haven't heard if this problem has been fixed once and for all. It has been around for a couple of years now, and it keeps happening.

I am staying away from partial loading and lightweight representations for now, until the dust clears.

[green]To the Toolmaker, your nice little cartoon drawing of your glass looks cool, but your solid model sucks. Do you want me to fix it, or are you going to take all week to get it back to me so I can get some work done?[/green]

Hmm, that's too bad to hear. One of the benefits that we used to justify making the switch was quicker load times for assemblies. But if the drawing is going to load the lightweight rep, we will probably just not use that option for now.

I have, but they were not able to duplicate the problem. I submitted IR 6785987, which was for this issue. The gentleman I spoke with also noticed that the files always opened as modified, so he converted my IR to a PR to address that issue, with the thought process that the two issues are somehow related.

We attempted to use appshare so that he could see what I am seeing, but our firewall decided that it won't allow that. Once I get that worked out with IT, I plan on trying to do that again.

There's your problem right there, Chris. You believed the "brochure".......might be quicker, but was anything promised about assemblies loading "correctly"?

Another PR for the pile..

I was looking at the customer defaults, and "Load Smart Lightweight Data" under Assemblies -> Site Standards -> Lightweight Representations seems to be making a difference. Odd...
