Greetings,

If I import a component into my assembly, is it possible to extract geometry from that component, then turn it into a non-associative body, then delete the component while keeping the extracted geometry copy?

Thanks,

Brent

There are at least 2 ways:
[ul]
[li]With the assembly as the display/work part, wave link the component body (turn off the "associative" option), then use "remove parameters" on the resulting link feature. This will result in a dumb body copy of the component body.[/li]
[li]With the assembly open, go to file -> export -> parasolid and export out the body(ies) of interest. Then import the parasolid file to your assembly.[/li]
[/ul]

If you have multiple bodies that you want to copy in this way, the parasolid method can get them all in one shot.

Good reason for this maneuver ?

Toost,

What my function is, is to design tools to manufacture/assemble parts. I need to begin with the part, which I import as a component. Then I need geometry off that part to design the fixture.

Lots of people utilize NX for tool design and do similar things to you . WAVE linking is used by many for that.
