If your floor is for office... do you use 2.4kpa (50psf) or 4.8kpa (100psf)?

But for office vs commercial load. You have both people walking on the floor. What do you expect for commercial load that is not in the office load when you are calculating the live load?

You have to check all the combinations in the code. Sometimes you can just see which combination will control but not always.

Retail is higher due to merchandise as well as delivery times when possibly large pallets of material are brought in to stock shelves.
Also, retail may have "busy" times when a lot of people occupy the space.

You have to use your judgement on which to use depending on the use of the building - also need to educate the owners as to what
you are doing so that they understand what they are getting in terms of floor capacity.
