Oil Circuit Breaker 3

Hi,
Can any explain the purpose of a "69" device on an oil circuit breaker?

From the ANSI Standard Device Designation Numbers a 69 device is:

Permissive Control Device is generally a two-position, manually-operated switch that, in one position, permits
the closing of a circuit breaker, or the placing of an equipment into operation, an in the other position
prevents the circuit breaker or the equipment from being operated.

Most often this is a Local/Remote control selector switch.

If I recall that is the manual trip lever used as a fail safe manual device to trip the breaker, and prevent closing.

As cranky stated the 69 device creates an open in the closing circuit on a breaker if the breaker is tripped by the manual trip otherwise called pull to trip or emergency trip lever.

The electrical switch that opens up the 'close' circuit is the '69' switch. It is typically activated by the operation of the manual trip handle at the OCB control cabinet and must be manually reset before a subsequent close operation.
