Oil storage tank design 1

Good day everyone, i need your support in designing oil storage tank 500m3, i was asked to design it half buried. The area we will build it not in earthquake line, any ideas about height, diameter and shell thickness??

I was asked to design the tank as per API 650. My manager asked me to design it half buried, she prefer to use ST44

I am guessing here that you have been assigned a task on a topic the you know nothing about.

Based on the elementary nature of your questions, I assume that there is no one in your organization to which you can ask questions

There are several good books, papers and forums available to educate yourself on API-650, vertical axis, flat bottomed tank design. These fora contain the accumulation of years of experience from grizzled veterans of tank design.

This is a good place to start .... Buy this book


Some important questions that must be answered before an API-650 tank can be designed are:

1) Exact nature of liquids stored including flammability, vapor pressure, design temperatures etc
2) Exact details about foundations, soil conditions and preferred bolting design
3) Venting/ pumpout requirements
4) Seismic/Wind loading conditions, minimum site temperature
5) Your preferred coatings systems
6) Your access requirements to the top and interior of the tank

etc ... etc....

Tell us more about your bizarre requirement for a half buried API-650 tank ...

What I mean is, the manager is definitely a 'he'.

Height and diameter of the tank are usually determined by the function of intend use, storage volume, and location and space constrain. Once these parameters are set, you can estimate plate thickness through code provisions.
