Dear All,

This is mahather, a piping engineer. Appreciate your advice on the below query.

ARAMCO standard (SAES-S-20) states the requirement for the provision of cleanout for force main piping.

"4.14.22.3 Force mains shall be provided with cleanout entries at not more than 30 meters (100 feet) intervals."

The cleanout is installed in such a way that the 6 inch branch is installed at 45 deg lateral angle above the force main line extending up to the grade level and RTR pipe is provided with the male threaded end which is fastened with RTR cap.

The operating pressure in the force main line from pump discharge to separation/ evaporation pond is 105 psig.

My query here is, there could be safety concerns by the providing RTR threaded cap for the 105 psig operating pressure as these locations are prone to leakage as the threaded cap may not be strong enough to hold the pressure and the thread may worn out after multiple usage in long run.

Request you to enlighten me on the following,
* What does the industry practice around the world say about the requirement of cleanout in force main lines?

* Which international standards are to be referred to find the recommendations regarding cleanout for the force main line?

* Here in Saudi, even in aramco they have not implemented cleanout in several projects but not able to technically justify why it is not required and if required for what purpose?

Regards & thanks in advance.
Mahathir
