Old materials in new designs 2

I am currently working on a project to modify existing piping in an old refinery. I want to do a tie in to some A155 Gr.C55 EFW pipe. This ASTM spec was discontinued in 1978. I do have a copy of the allowable stress tables from B31.3-76. Does B31.3 allow the use of old allowable stress values for new calculations where the material is no longer available? Or should I be using current values for the corresponding material?

I guess the next question would be, does anyone know what the current material that would correspond to A155 Gr.C55 EFW would be? I believe that it would be covered by ASTM A671 or A672, but I am unable to find a copy of the old A155 spec for comparison.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You should use the allowable stress corresponding to the year of design submission.

I have a similar issue. I need to verify Min T for A155 Class 2, Grade KC55, but I do not have the allowable stresses for various temperatures. Since you have the stress tables, could you let me know what the allowable stress is at 650 and at 700F for KC55.
Or if anyone else has this information please help.

Hmm. That was two and a half years ago. I checked my records, and I had the applicable pages faxed to a field office, which means they have been archived at home. I'll see if I can dig up the info that you are looking for tonight.

he specification that is applicable is ASTM A 672. The equivalent material specification is ASTM A 516 Grade 55 plate that is rolled and seam welded, as a substitute for the A 155 Gr55 EFW - electric fusion welded pipe.

My 1965 Sect VIII doesn’t list SA155 in Section C.

The replacement for ASTM A155 was ASTM A671-04.
