Good Morning All

I have been driving myself crazy spending a considerable amount of time looking for a check valve with a set of specific attributes.

To date, I have had no success with finding anything that suits.

As well as this, I have contacted multiple manufacturers and companies worldwide, and again, have had absolutely no joy in finding what I need and in many cases not even received replies from those I have contacted.

As a result, I am hoping someone here can assist me with some guidance, advice or recommendation as to who, what, where and how I can find what I am looking for.

To kick things off, here are my rough specs:

========================= ATTRIBUTES =========================
Usage: Compressed Gas Delivery
Application: Automotive

Valve Type: One Way Flow (Check) - Normally Closed.
Check Activation: Manual (not electronic or solenoid, operation based on inbound and back flow pressures).
Operating Temperature: approx +270c (+500f).
Forward Air Pressure: +1psi to 50psi max.
Cracking Pressure: +/- 1psi.
Back Pressure Strength: approx 1000+ psi.
Frequency/ Check Cycles: approx 60/sec.
Fitting Options: 1/4 BSP (prefer female).
Body Material: Please advise of any recommendation/ options.
Seal Material: Kalrez. Please advise of any recommendation/ options.
Operation Type (ball, poppet, piston etc): Please advise of any recommendation/ options.
Flow: ?? (as much as possible).
==============================================================

Hopefully someone out there is able to assist me with finding a suitable product. Or be able to convince me that I am just insane with what I am trying to find...

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help in any way.

Anywhere near 60 open/close cycles per second suggests a very small moving mass, like a reed valve. They aren't normally up to sealing against 1000 psi backpressure, and they aren't normally supplied in generic packages.

I.e., you are asking for a custom valve.
How many millions will you need per year?

Thanks for responding Mike

At the moment I am in a prototyping phases so quantities are quite low...

Albeit, I am expecting there to be multiple testing and refinement phases associated with perfecting the valve.

After which point, I expect required quantities to evolve into a commercially viable production scale...

You probably need to talk to a reciprocating compressor manufacturer as that sort of duty is well outside most commercial check valve suppliers ranges.

At that size look up chemical injection pump suppliers - they will use valves that do that sort of duty, but might not want to sell the valve separate. Or buy a pump that does this sort of duty and cannibalise it???

~what sort of companies and manufacturers have you been contacting?

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Thanks for the replies everyone...

Is this for a medical application?
Nope, is for an automotive engine...

So far I have contacted companies/ manufacturers of check valves and to name a few:

Jasco
Haskel/ Bu-Tech
Circle Valve
Lee Co
Alkon-Group
Schrader International
CheckAll

No one seems to be able to assist in anyway... It's either a "No, we don't do that kind of thing." or no reply at all...

It is highly frustrating when there must be a solution or something that is suitable.

I am not prepared to give up and am sure that there is someone, or something out there that will work.

As was mentioned, investigate reed valves.
Otherwise, you have found an opportunity to design your own. How exciting is that?

Maybe some version of a duckbill valve by Vernay.

As I said before, I think you're looking in the wrong place. What you describe is a valve inside a reciprocating compressor or pump, so ask compressor manufacturers. These valves are specialised and 60/sec = 3600rpm.

Try also searching chemical injection pump check valves and you might get some more interest.

As Mike I do not believe the valve is commercially available as describred. The nearest i could think of is to check with Flowserve/Gestra if one of their guided disc-check valves (metal to metal seating) could be within reasonable adapting range. The manual operation start/stop would probably be a challenge. Separate on/off valve in series?

Gestra® Check Valves •. Wafer Style Guided Disc Check Valve. RK 76. Available Sizes: ½ " to 4". (DN 15 to 200). Application. The RK 76 is used for preventing ...

Thank you all for the valuable comments, I greatly appreciate all the feedback and direction everyone has been able to offer.

I have started to research the various options and avenues you have all informed me of and hopefully it leads to a positive outcome.

Also, it's kind of comforting to know that I am not entirely crazy in my search for a solution and I think it's kind of obvious that you all can see the challenge I am facing...

Please keep the comments coming as anything you all offer helps.

At the same time, I will add my findings as I progress on my journey...

I'll bet that most valves like this are integral to the equipment. Like automotive cylinder valves, you can buy the 'valve' but you can't buy it with a housing, return spring, et al, without buying the entire head assembly.

Two things come to mind. One is that Cox used to sell reed valve motors, running up to about 12k RPM, but not with the back pressure level or temperatures you are looking for.

The other is that this unit is going to sound like a buzz bomb. Such valves are used on a particularly obnoxious sounding pulse jet engines. The pressures in those engines may well approach 1000 psi and tend to a dull red from heat.

I would try breaking the problem down into steps. On/Off, one way flow, pressure reduction. See if you can accomplish the task in multiple steps. Like a pressure regulator, a check valve and some type of rotating on/off valve.
