We have online viscometer for short residue(SR) which gives us the abs.Viscosity of the SR.How can i find the penetration value of SR by knowing its absolute viscosity in poise

I have some old viscosity charts that shows the typical viscosity of various products including 5, 25, 100 and 230 pen asphalt. On a semi-log graph, there is a straight line relationship between the viscosity in cSt and temperature.

I'd try doing some testing of your SR to get viscosity/temperature data and see if you get the same relationship. You could be able to curve fit the data to produce what you need.

Hi
Thanks for ur comment.Actually i have calculated by regression by collecting data.I come up with diff result as we process different crudes.

In the online visco i have two tags.

1. It shows me the dynamic vusco and other one is viscosity corrected at 60 deg c.

I want to know how viscosity corrected at 60 deg c is calculated because it matches with my penetration interpolation

Thanks

Have you asked the vendor? I only work with asphalt on the periphery, I don't know what standard approaches there may be in the industry. The asphalt institute has looks of good stuff but it's not openly accessible.

I just now completed my college and joine the refinery. The online Visco was in my refinery earlier(around 3 years back)

Have you checked out some of the "on-line" material. For example this article "Engen Penetration Grade Bitumens" has a spec sheet summarizing their results much of which parallels the info. you seek.
