Hi,

I was wondering if opaque (any color) shrink wrap exists?
Also, is there a type of ink that sprayed on that would survive the shrink wrap process?

Thanks

Shrink wrap is most typically PE or EVA. Inks don't normally apply or stick well.

It is entirely possible to colour the plastics before the film is made. It may require a sizable order to convince someone to do it though.

My friend at BASF developed and commercialized a new shrink wrap based on an SBS copolymer (styrene and butadiene) which should be polar enough that you can print on it. PET shrink wraps should be too.

It's easy to make a polymer opaque. Just add filler or make a blend with an immiscible polymer.

Thanks for the reply guys!

I was wondering if there is an easy way to print on shrink wrap as well? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Also, what is the recycle-ability of the shrink wrap plastic? Has anyone started using bio-degradable plastics for shrink wrap? What is the cost difference?

Thanks Again.

It is recyclable as they are thermoplastics which you can melt and reuse.

As far as I know biodegradable plastics are not yet used. In general they are inferior to synthetic plastics, cost more and are less environmentally friendly too.
