So why did Seimens decide to remove open component as from nx 7.5?

Is there a way to do this in a different operation that I am not finding?

This was a very useful tool for substituting components. This can still be done but requires much more work and time to do. Now there are times I actually have to close the entire assembly to substitute.

This seems like a common thing in the upgrade form NX 5 to NX 7.5. a lot more time to do the same thing.

Actually this was changed in NX 6.0 when we Consolidated the 'Open As' and 'Open Assembly As' into the 'Replace Component' function as described below in the 'What's New' entry from NX 6.0:
